Mike Stob (Calvin College)

In 2012, a very surprising thing happened in the draw for the round of sixteen of the Champions League.  Was it so surprising that we should believe that the draw wasn’t as random as it was claimed to be?  Were the odds 2,000,000 to 1 as one newspaper had it?  Or were they closer to 5,000 to 1 as the London bookies made them out to be?  This colloquium is for all those who love tricky counting problems (and for all those who are taking it for credit).

Refreshments precede the talk at 3:30pm in NH-282.
