The Power of Failing: Relating Gospel and DIY Ethics as a Tool for Discourse and Activism
Baker will explore overlaps between the DIY culture of Punk/Hardcore and the ecumenical faith community. DIY ethics bear similarities to the values of the early church: familial, collaborative communities equalizing members and creating spaces for the marginalized to be healed and welcomed.
Julien Baker is everywhere. The 21-year-old singer-songwriter released her debut album, Sprained Ankle, to widespread critical acclaim, earning her praise from the New York Times, Pitchfork, NPR and the AV Club as well as opening slots for veteran artists such as Death Cab for Cutie and The Decemberists. Written throughout her freshmen year of college, Sprained Ankle is a gorgeous and devastating collection of songs that explore self-worth and depression while centering on faith and the various obstacles that get in its way.
