Supporting Calvin

Alumni financial support of the college is vital to maintaining the academically excellent, Christian education Calvin provides. The Calvin Development Office offers a variety of giving programs.

You can also support the college as an "ambassador" — contributing to admissions, career services, public relations, and alumni efforts. Browse the list below for a variety of ways to support Calvin!

  1. Wear Calvin: Whether it's a t-shirt at the gym or a tie at the office, sport the maroon and gold wherever you are. (The Campus Store has a great selection and online ordering!)

  2. Register for KnightVision, the online alumni community, and subscribe to calvin-wire, an e-mail newsletter providing the latest news from the Knollcrest campus.

  3. Know a potential Calvin student? Submit an online referral form.

  4. Attend your class reunion — and bring a friend. If you're interested in serving on your reunion planning committee, e-mail reunions@calvin.edu.

  5. Volunteer to be the Calvin representative at a college admissions fair in your area as part of the Alumni Admissions Support Network (AASN). Contact Noah Kruis (aasn@calvin.edu) for details.

  6. Calvin Spring Classic Fun RunBe an individual or corporate sponsor for the Alumni Golf Tournament or Spring Classic 5k Race.

  7. Establish a named scholarship for Calvin students—you choose the criteria. All scholarship donors get to meet their scholarship recipients at the scholarship dinner held each fall.

  8. Send your pastor and worship leaders to the Calvin Symposium on Worship held each January on campus.

  9. Host a Calvin intern at your company.

  10. Schedule a conference at the Prince Conference Center.

  11. Display a Calvin window sticker on your vehicle. (Need one? They're free! Email alumni@calvin.edu.)

  12. Contribute to your local alumni chapter's scholarship program, and encourage students you know to apply for these scholarships.

  13. Fans at "The Game"Find a site in your area to view the Calvin vs. Hope men's satellite game live on game day. You find the site; we'll help with publicity and send a box of Calvin pompoms and other goodies.

  14. Become a member of CALL, the Calvin Academy for Lifelong Learning, and participate in classes, field trips, travelogues, and more. Non-alumni are welcome too. (You must be at least 50 to join.)

  15. Run or walk in the Calvin 5k Spring Classic, or encourage your kids to participate in the 1k Family Fun Run. And be sure to show off your Spring Classic t-shirt, too.

  16. Send your kids to one of the many summer camps—music, sports, art, chemistry, languages, wetlands and woodlands—held on campus each year.

  17. Invite a Calvin speaker to lead an adult education session at your church—see the Resource Guide (PDF file) for ideas.

  18. Recommend prospective faculty members for open positions.

  19. Send a contribution to the Calvin Annual Fund—your yearly gifts make a difference in the lives of Calvin students today. Gifts may be designated for student services, capital improvement/technology, research, financial aid, or left undesignated for the area of greatest need.

  20. Submit a class note to Spark or submit an update for an academic department newsletter.

  21. Serve as a chapter leader or contact person, coordinating Calvin events and programs in your geographic area.

  22. Volunteer to host an admitted student reception at a local restaurant your home for local students accepted to Calvin as part of the Alumni Admissions Support Network (AASN). Contact Tasha Paul (aasn@calvin.edu) for details.

  23. Post job openings for positions at your company, or come and recruit on campus. Encourage your employer to hire Calvin grads.

  24. Bring a group of prospective students to Fridays at Calvin. Some alums bringing a larger group might qualify for reimbursement under the Group Visit Guidelines.

  25. Pray for requests posted on the community prayer log. Also, pray for RAs, RDs, and Residence Life staff as they build community among students.

  26. Entrada scholarsEncourage minority high school juniors and seniors to participate in the summer Entrada Scholars Program.

  27. Become a member of the William Spoelhof Society by making a planned gift to the college.

  28. Work in journalism? Use the Calvin Experts Guide as a reference when you need opinions on the latest issues in the news.

  29. Pass your copy of Spark along to a non-alum reader, place a copy in your office's lobby/waiting room or leave it in a visible place where others will find it.

  30. Reconnect with a Calvin friend with whom you've lost touch. (Not sure how to reach them? Check KnightVision or e-mail alumni@calvin.edu.)

  31. Host a Calvin music ensemble at your church, or host students overnight during their spring break music tours.

  32. Plan ahead for a Calvin education — purchase a Calvin tuition gift certificate for your kids or grandkids.

  33. Pray for Calvin faculty who balance teaching, research, advising, family and church commitments.

  34. Share your opinions with us! Write a letter to Spark, offer feedback on our website, email us. Contact your local Alumni Board representative.

  35. Encourage your local Christian or classical radio station to play music by the Calvin Alumni Choir or the Calvin Oratorio Society's annual performance of Handel's "Messiah." If you hear a Calvin ensemble on the radio, make sure to let the station know you appreciate it!

  36. Send a thank-you note to your favorite Calvin profs or nominate them (emeriti only) for the Alumni Association's Faith and Learning Award.

  37. Show an Inner Compass or Eyes Wide Open (Bill Romanowski) video for a high school class lecture, youth group discussion, or adult education presentation; listen to January Series lectures via RealAudio.

  38. Find out whether your employer has a matching gift program.

  39. Adopt a pet from the West Michigan Regional Lab at Calvin.

  40. Contact an academic department about giving a guest lecture/colloquium for majors in that department.

  41. Host a Streetfest group or provide other service-learning experiences at your non-profit organization through Calvin's Service-Learning Center.

  42. Praise God for the many ways he has blessed Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary!
