Over the last four decades more than 750 people have gone on the German Interim Abroad (GIA), the longest-running, off-campus interim. All alumni of the GIA are invited to attend.
9 a.m. Breakfast Reception, Deutsches Frühstück
Celebrating 40 years of the German Interim Abroad
Commons Annex Lecture Hall
This celebration breakfast will provide an opportunity for fellowship and reminiscing, and will include comments and stories from alumni and professors who were involved with the GIA over the years.
As part of our celebrations this year, all alumni of the GIA will also receive, by mail, a complimentary copy of the commemorative booklet Behind the Iron Curtain: The Calvin College German Interim Abroad in East Germany 1971-1989. This booklet is a collection of memories from the German interim written by Wally Bratt, in collaboration with Barbara Carvill and Jim Lamse, professors emeritus of Calvin’s German program.
Earlier this year, also in commemoration of this 40-year milestone, we contacted all former participants as part of a campaign to increase the endowment supporting scholarships for students participating in the GIA. Over the years these scholarships have helped make going on the German interim possible for many students. You are still welcome to give at: www.calvin.edu/go/gia.
