Women's volleyball tournament
August 30 & 31, 2013
Knights volleyball heads west to play in an early-season tournament at the University of the Puget Sound in Tacoma* on August 30 and 31—a tournament with some of the best teams in the country invited.
The Knights play twice on each day: Wartburg (IA) at noon and Pacific Lutheran at 6 p.m. on the 30th; Puget Sound at noon and UC-Santa Cruz at 4 p.m. on the 31st. Please consider loading up the car or van and filling up the stands with cheering Calvin fans!
Please note: Housing needed!
In addition, the team is looking for housing in the area for a couple of evenings prior to the tournament (August 28 and 29). The location could be anywhere in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area. If you have suggestions, contact the alumni office at email@example.com or 616-526-6142. There will be 12 or 13 players and 2 or 3 coaches headed to Washington State.
This is a REALLY GOOD team! Women’s volleyball has caught on at Calvin with large and boisterous crowds at many of the team’s games. Join the growing tradition and cheer on the volleyball Knights!
"Beyond Downton Abbey" | July 29, 2013
Join Calvin English professor Sarina Moore for a special talk titled: "Beyond Downton Abbey," on Monday, July 29, at 7 p.m. Currently, Moore is doing research on the 19th century British novelist Elizabeth Gaskell, a writer who has gained popularity since the BBC adapted several of her novels as TV mini-series. Her knowledge of this time period offers an interesting window into the history and literature connected with Downton Abbey, a British period drama television series on PBS that has received numerous awards since it debuted in 2010.
You are invited to attend a dessert reception on Thursday, August 1, at 7 p.m., to meet and talk with Calvin's 10th president, Dr. Michael K. Le Roy. This will be a great opportunity to get to know the new president, hear about his vision for Calvin College and participate in a conversation with him.
