Photo GalleryEvent DescriptionOn November 16, 2006, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., we will explore the wonders of Midwestern fitness culture when we tour the newly completed David D. Hunting YMCA in downtown Grand Rapids. This impressive 159,000-square-foot facility is the first YMCA in the U.S. that is LEED certified by the U.S. Green Building Council for its many environmentally friendly features. Among the many outstanding amenities of the new downtown “Y” are the family recreation pool with water slide, the one-seventh mile indoor running track, a fitness testing facility, two 30-meter climbing walls (one for expert climbers and one for novices) and a café. These features join the lap pool, whirlpools, sauna and steam rooms; the “KidZone,” the “TeenZone” (complete with computer room), the “FitZone” and the childcare center with an outdoor playground; the community meeting room, locker rooms, chapel and beginning exercise center; the fitness rooms, racquetball courts, squash courts, basketball courts and the cardio and strength training equipment. To merely tour this facility is a workout! Ron Nelson, the President and CEO of the greater Grand Rapids YMCA, will join us to talk about the organization’s enduring mission: “putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.” Our other special guest, Calvin physical education professor Julie Walton, will exhort the faithful on “Exercise: The Healthcare Plan with No Side Effects.” Event DetailsWednesday, November 16, 2005
The registration and reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby area of the YMCA. Presentations featuring Ron Nelson, chief executive officer and
