Calvin Around Town • November 12, 2004

A sold out crowd of 300 alumni and friends toured the Meijer Heart Center 2 weeks before its public grand opening. Doctors, nurses, and hospital staff lead tours and fielded questions regarding all aspects of the new facility. It was a rare behind-the-scenes preview that few get to experience.

The Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center	Eight floors provide 300,000 sq. feet of architecture with heart	The main entrance on Barclay Street	Guests began to arrive shortly before 6 p.m.
Hundreds of paintings, drawings and sculptures fill the hallways	Alumni and friends gathering at the registration	David Vis '79 signing in for his name tag	Spectrum Health provided first class service all evening

46 private rooms each with a window and sleeper sofas	18-foot bamboo trees reach up past the 7 and 8 floors	Rooms are designed with a "One Stay / One Room" philosophy
Up-close look at the cardiovascular catheterization lab			Alumni visited the 9-bed cardiovascular surgery recovery unit
Questions were handled with expert care	The "megavotor" covers 500 feet per minute (that's 8' per second!)	Individual tours delivered a true behind-the-scenes look
A nurse explains the inner workings of a surgical suite	Artwork covers both walls and ceilings!	Alumni hear the details of the observation unit and noninvasive diagnostic imaging	Thank you to all at Spectrum Health who made this event possible!
