To be considered "actively involved" in the programming function, a chapter must organize at least one activity per year, preferably one with a "Calvin focus" (i.e. Calvin prof or staff person is present). Anything that appeals to alumni in your region or interest group is fair game—educational, social, athletic, musical or perhaps a combination of these. Some examples of alumni programs are:
The Alumni and Public Relations Office regularly schedules professors, staff and music groups on tours (e.g. profs on January Interim tours or choirs during Spring break) and, on a rotating basis, your chapter region will be on the tour. This event may "count" as your chapter's programming activity; however, the chapter leaders don't get a choice of the time or event in this case. Planning your own event gives the chapter those privileges. To schedule an event, chapter leaders start by simply contacting the Alumni and Public Relations Office at 616-526-6142 or emailing chapters@calvin.edu. If you are interested in a Calvin speaker or videotape, the Resource Guide to Speakers and Programs, available from the Alumni and Public Relations Office, is full of suggestions and ideas. |
