Dr. Michael Le Roy has completed his first month as president, keeping busy attending "New President School" at Harvard and meeting many people in and around campus. Student summer activities

Fourteen Calvin students are testing their calls to ministry at sites all around the U.S. and Canada as part of the college's Jubilee Fellows program.

Over at the Ecosystem Preserve on the east campus, education students are running the "Creepy Crawlies" camp at Calvin's preserve.

Calvin recently hosted the first Young Women’s Business Institute, sponsored by the Calvin Center for Innovation in Business. The event was created to expose young women to business-related careers and introduce them to local businesswomen.

Renewal of all things

A $375,000 state grant from the Department of Environmental Quality  helps Calvin further research, education and restoration efforts to improve the Plaster Creek Watershed.

Faculty awards

A $1.7 million grant from the Templeton foundation will allow Jim Bradley to study how "God can have it both ways."

Jan Koop has landed her fourth consecutive grant to work with math teachers to improve skills and change attitudes toward teaching it.

Andrew Knot '12

Recent grad Andrew Knot will go on from Calvin to Austria to teach English in a secondary classroom thanks to an award from an Austrian-American Educational Commission (Fulbright Commission).

Knot, who majored in English (graduating with honors) and German, won a writing award as a student sports assistant. He also wrote a series of short stories about his brother David, who has autism, for his honors thesis. English Professor Gary Schmidt said, of Knot, that the "deep sense of devotion, deep sense of his calling as a Christian writer, comes through in his writing." Read more.

The Alumni Association is encouraging all alumni networks to pick a day in September to make a difference in their community as part of StreetFest International 2012. The goal is continue the Calvin tradition of "serving to learn and learning to serve."
