Senior Design Night, honors thesis

engr student

There are 14 senior design teams this year, each one a different configuration of civil and environmental, electrical and computer, chemical, and mechanical concentrators. Through the year-long course, Senior Design Project, each team takes on a year-long project that serves as a capstone to their Calvin engineering experience.

Senior Matthew Koh’s novel Fallen begins in a world where paradise has already been lost. The main action of the story takes place during Jesus’ temptation. As an honors thesis project for his English major, Koh’s novel was an ambitious challenge.

Professor of the Year

PottsStudents voted nursing professor Renae Boss Potts the 2011 Professor of the Year, an honor bestowed by the outgoing Calvin senior class. Many of those students were on hand when she received the award.

The honoree laughed and announced: “I have 60 hugs to give!” and she went through the crowd of students, thanking each of them in turn.

Women's basketball coach John Ross was named Women's Coach of the Year for Michigan.

"Our life is in God's hands. He takes care of us. (Last year) was a very miraculous event, and it shows that God is with us at all times." That's Harold Schnyders, a 1960 Calvin alum, in an interview with the Grand Rapids Press about his role as the official starter for the 21st annual Calvin College 5K Spring Classic. Last year Schnyders suffered a heart attack during this same race. He is grateful for the quick response by fellow runners and emergency personnel.
