"Every year one of my English professors would invite students who couldn't go home for Thanksgiving to come to his house for dinner. Sometimes I wished I didn't have anywhere to go just so I could take him up on the offer!"
"I didn't know anyone when I came to Calvin but quickly formed friendship with some girls on my floor. Eight years later they are still my closest and dearest friends."
"When I took an interim off to live and work with a missionary in Haiti, I ran into another Calvin student doing the same thing. It was astounding to be so far from campus and so close at the same time."
These are some of the stories that have been told during the ReCommend campaign. We are now on the next phase of ReCommend, this time for alumni. Help us recruit students to the school you love! Talk to high school students, parents, guidance counselors, pastors—even students already admitted to Calvin. Tell your Calvin story, and let us know who you're talking to by April 15 and get a chance to win gift cards to the campus store!
Another great way to recommend Calvin is to encourage students to visit. One Minnesota alumni recently took a road trip to Calvin for "Fridays."

Rangeela, Calvin's annual international student variety show, has been one of the highlights of the college calendar since 1996. Calvin has the 6th largest international student population of any liberal arts college in the United States, as well as all of West Michigan. Rangeela — a pageant of costume, music, rhythm and drama — is a gift to Calvin and beyond from the international student community.
Rangeela (Hindi for "colorful") is put together by a group of students, elected each year by their peers, and assisted by one of Calvin's deans. It consistently sells out two consecutive nights each year. Read more information about Rangeela.
The show's first organizer, Anne Zaki, reflects on how Rangeela kept her at Calvin and talks about some of the colorful components of this event.
At Calvin, discovering asteroids has become a passion and part of the curriculum, introduced to intro science courses six years ago. Since then, Calvin students and faculty have discovered 263 asteroids in all, including 44 that could be named (to name an asteroid requires that it be tracked over a period of several years to determine its precise orbit). The latest has been named Asteroid Banneker in honor of Benjamin Banneker, a pioneering African American scientist.
