2009 Commencement review
Take a behind-the-scenes look at the 2009 Commencement ceremony, held on Saturday, May 23 at Van Noord Arena on campus. See all of the work by many unsung heroes leading up to the event! There is also a story about Prof. Larry Louters wearing Dr. William Spoelhof's gown and hood to Commencement.
Chemistry demos for elementary students
Speaking of Prof. Louters, he and other Calvin professors use a visually appealing and entertaining program to help elementary kids become more familiar with chemistry. The program is a teaser to the science camps that Calvin offers over the summer. Take a look at some of the highlights.

Calvin staffer wins major library award
While she's been serving pie (and lunch) for 16 years at Calvin, Shirley Bruursema has also been serving local libraries. Now she's the 2009 recipient of the Trustee Citation by the Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Founations (ALTAFF), a national organization that is a division of the American Library Association (ALA). Read more about her service to Calvin and for libraries everywhere!
Professor of the Year: Cal Jen
For presumably the first time ever, Calvin’s prestigious Professor of the Year award is going to a professor who is named after the college. Business professor Cal Jen, the son of Chinese immigrants, was born the year his father graduated from Calvin Theological Seminary.
The Gift of All
Some 50 hours of original interviews with local philanthropists will be presented to the Grand Rapids Public Library when communications arts and sciences professor Daniel Garcia will donate them for their historical collection at a public event on June 9. The original interviews with philanthropists will be donated to the library in the form of high-definition DVDs and a 650-page transcript. The event is open to the public and will include a screening of the documentary, The Gift of All: A Community of Givers. Read a profile of Daniel Garcia here.
