Calvin Theatre Company: 75 Years of Inspiration

The Calvin Theatre Company celebrates 75 years in 2008-2009 and is presenting many events all year long.  Don't miss the special kick-off event on October 2 with Deborah Lew, chronicling her journey from Calvin to Broadway through story and song.  On the website celebrating this event, you will find the schedule of events and read profiles of alumni and faculty.  There, you can also submit your memories of the Calvin Theatre Company for the 75 year anniversary blog.

Streetfest sign

What have students been doing this week?

Last week, nearly 1,000 new Calvin students left campus and hit the streets—and waterways—of Grand Rapids for a closer look at the city for Streetfest 2008. While many groups participated in service projects at organizations around the city, one group took canoes to the Grand River to see Grand Rapids from a slightly different perspective.  Watch the video and see photos!

Wake book cover

New York Times bestselling author

How is Calvin alumna and mom of teenagers Lisa McMann cool enough to write a novel for teens-one that's popular enough to make the New York Times bestseller list? The author of WAKE, the first in a trilogy of books for young adults, says it all has to do with a little bit of empathy, a touch of compassion and a lot of respect for the intelligence of her audience.  You can read the interview with her and watch a book trailer of WAKE on News & Stories.
