China Today for Americans now

As the Olympics open in Beijing, professor Larry Herzberg and his wife and Chinese instructor Qin introduce a documentary aimed at bringing the American view of China up to speed with the country's recent modernizations.  Included in this story is a video clip that summarizes their work on this documentary and features interviews with educators, government officials, migrant workers and intellectuals.

Professor emeritus Edward Ericson, Jr. reflects on Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

The cultural landscape lost a towering figure with the death of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn on Sunday, August 3, 2008.  Calvin professor of English emeritus Edward Ericson, Jr. reflects on his friend and colleague Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn .  There are also links found there to the Wall Street Journal story that was written about his reflections.

Students Receive Inaugural MIAA Sports Information Awards

A pair of Calvin students has been honored by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Bruce Van Baren is the first-ever winner of the new Hartman Writing Award, while Annalise Ven Huizen won the inaugural Renner Associate Sports Information Director Award.

Calvin Center for Christian Scholarship news

The Calvin Center for Christian Scholarship is pleased to announce that four Working Groups were funded for the 2008-2009 academic year.  A Working Group is designed to bring together Calvin faculty from across the disciplines to discuss topics of mutual interest with a view toward possibly developing applications for larger-scale grants in the future.

Alumni Golf Tournament - September 6, 2008

Registration is still open to all alumni and friends for this tournament at beautiful Pilgrim's Run.  A 2007 United States Open qualifying site, Pilgrim's Run was named one of the "Top 100 Golf Courses You Can Play."  In addition, everyone that registers receives a golfer's gift!


There are stories about the beautification of the median between the lanes of the East Beltline that divide the west and east sides of campus, and many fascinating faculty and staff profiles -- all found on News & Stories .
