International student visit day

Each fall, international students who are currently living in the U.S. are invited to attend the Fridays at Calvin visit program with some special sessions just for you! Calvin has over 300 international students, making it 5th in the nation among all baccalaureate colleges for the number of international students. Come check out our international community and learn about strategies for the U.S. application process.

  Tentative Schedule
8:45am Arrival and check-in at the Prince Conference Center
9:00am Fridays at Calvin opening session
10:00am Join the Calvin community for chapel
10:30am Panel discussion with international students and staff
11:30am Class visits
12:30pm Lunch
1:30pm Overview Calvin’s admissions and financial aid processes for International Students
2:30pm Campus Tour – led by current international students
3:30pm Meet Host (if you are spending the night)

 

Travel Voucher Information

A limited number of travel vouchers are available for those that live in the U.S. and need assistance with transportation. Student travel expenses will be reimbursed as follows:

Driving to campus: Up to $200 of the student's traveling expenses will be reimbursed. Reimbursement will be calculated based on mileage from the student’s U.S. address multiplied by Calvin’s standard mileage allowance.

  • For example, 154 miles traveled X .55/mile = $84.70 reimbursement

Air/Train/Bus transportation:

  • Up to $200 of the student’s paid ticket will be reimbursed, with a receipt. 
  • IMPORTANT:  Before purchasing travel tickets, contact Vanessa Abreu at 616-526-6106 (800-688-0122) to confirm that your visit reservation has been received and that space is available in that visit program. 

Lodging

Parents:  Calvin will provide one night of lodging in the Prince Conference Center for parents accompanying their student on a campus visit. Meals on campus will be provided during the visit.   

Students: Students will stay with student hosts in residence halls. Meals will be provided

Reimbursement will be made after the visit. Students must attend all scheduled visit activities. Please submit a copy of the receipt for travel expenses to Vanessa Abreu. Calvin will mail a reimbursement check to the student/family.

Visit reservations and travel grants are based on space availability, so please make your reservations well in advance.
