What was your high school/secondary school like?
Non-Christian, academically demanding.
Out of thousands of schools in the U.S., why Calvin?
Because God has a unique sense of humor. I was also very attracted to the God-glorifying Christ-focused education offered at Calvin.
What opportunities for spiritual growth have you participated in? Going to the different chapel services, including the Spanish and French chapels. We also get together with my friends in my floor once a week to read the Bible and talk a lot about Jesus. We encourage and motivate each other to live intentionally for Christ. I love it!
What's the best class you've taken, or the best professor you've had?
This is a hard question because I have had several classes that I have loved. Probably one of my favorites has been Theology 131 with Prof. Griffioen. It was challenging but I enjoyed his class because he is a great professor and I definitely learned a lot of really cool stuff!
Another one I really enjoyed was my DCM class: the Resurgence of Calvinism. Pastor Paul DeVries taught this class and I learned a lot and had a great time.
What challenges have you faced at Calvin?
Learning to live in a new country, with a new culture, different language and far away from home. I had (and still have) so much to learn!
What is your most memorable experience at Calvin?
I had the opportunity of sharing a small devotional at morning Chapel for a service organized by ISAC (International Student Association Committee). It was really exciting and a great experience. I am amazed of how good God is and how he never ceases to surprise me! He is always faithful.
What do you usually do for fun on the weekends?
Go out to eat with friends, play basketball, lift weights, and read cool books!
What is Grand Rapids like?
Super nice little town with amazing people.
How do you get involved at Calvin?
Calvin is so cool because it offers you a lot of opportunities to get involved in service and leadership positions. This year I was the American Representative in ISAC (International Student Association Committee). I also worked for the Phonathon and got the chance to share with lots of Calvin alumni and remind them how cool Calvin is. There were also a lot of dorm events such as floor dates, Chaos day, and other dorm activities. I also got the opportunity of serving as a Spanish Conversation Leader this year and met other people and helped them out with their Spanish (which is also a pretty fun language).
What is the community like at Calvin?
The community at Calvin is great. I think Calvin does an awesome job at encouraging community among students and staff. I met a lot of amazing people, students and professors, that became a huge blessing in my life. People at Calvin are also very friendly! It’s a like a big family.
Favorite, Dance Guild, Rangeela or Airband?
My favorite is probably Rangeela because it’s a show that demonstrates different world cultures. It’s really fun and really interesting.
