About Us - Animal Care & Use
All projects, both for teaching and for research, must first undergo review by the West Michigan Regional Laboratory Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (WMRL IACUC). This is a committee consisting of scientists, veterinarians, nonscientists, and laypeople who are not affiliated with WMRL. This committee has the final say in the determination of the suitability of the use of animals at WMRL for instructional and research projects, and no study can begin or continue without the approval of this committee.
Forms, and assistance with the completion of the forms, can be obtained by calling the WMRL office at 616-526-8440, or by contacting us via email at wmrl@calvin.edu. A copy of the WMRL Animal Use Form (353K .DOC) is available online. Once the form is completed, it can be emailed back to the WMRL office for preliminary review and assistance with pagination. WMRL will make arrangements for getting final signatures, etc.
The WMRL IACUC meets on the second Monday of every month. The Project Submission Schedule for the WMRL IACUC is available online.
