Welcome!

New: US Department of Education Off-Campus Community Service Program (OCCS)

This one year grant underwrites the employment of 32 students per semester (Spring and Fall Terms
2011) in five local nonprofit organizations:

                                • The American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids
                                • Safe Haven Ministries
                                • David D. Hunting Child Development Center of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids
                                • Camp Fire USA West Michigan Council
                                • Heart of West Michigan United Way’s Schools of Hope

This work experience will be supported by training that prepares students for employment both during
and after their college years. Students will also learn about non-profits’ role in our community and learn
about opportunities to continue their involvement in the future, as employees or as volunteers.

Through the implementation of this grant we anticipate that Calvin College students will gain
meaningful work experiences, develop job skills, and connect to the Grand Rapids nonprofit community.

It is also our hope that community organizations will expand their services through the work of mature
and committed part-time staff members and that Calvin College will enhance its partnerships with local community service agencies.
