Who am I? Examining Self-Identity

Where am I? Exploring the communities around us

What do I believe? Continuing the journey of faith

Who is my neighbor? Engaging in hospitality

What am I doing here? Discovering gifts and abilities

What now? Planning for the journey ahead

Course Description

The First Year Prelude Program begins in the fall semester and introduces students to Calvin College as a Christian community of inquiry. The course is a preparatory and integral component of IDIS W50 (Developing a Christian Mind) and serves as a prerequisite to the Cross-Cultural Engagement (CCE) core requirement.

Prelude is designed as a one semester-hour course that all first year students will take during their first semester. Prelude provides students with a rudimentary introduction to several important aspects of Calvin's reformed identity through a common intellectual experience. Specifically, this course helps establish a common vocabulary for the terms Responsible Freedom, Cultural Discernment, Cross-Cultural Engagement, and Vocation.
