SLC Scholarships- Faculty/Staff Nomination(s) for Lighthouse Scholarship and/or Stephanie Dykstra Scholarship

The Service-Learning Center serves as the “department” for several scholarships focused on service, two of which require nominations. The first is the Lighthouse Scholarship. This scholarship is established by a family to assist students who show their devotion to the Lord through their acts of service to others around them. The name of the scholarship is taken from the scripture passage found in Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

The second is the Stephanie Dykstra Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is in memory of Stephanie, a student who passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 1999 after suffering a pulmonary embolus. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize students who are clearly storing up treasures in heaven through their service and friendship to people in local communities and thus are recognized by their friends, teachers, and mentors as people who have truly trusted in God as their only comfort in life and death. More specifically, the recipients of the scholarship will show dedication to the service of disadvantaged people through committed service-learning involvement and must be recognized by those who know them well as people who have entrusted their life to Christ.

We need nominations from you for each of these scholarships. Once we receive nominations from you, we will forward an application to each individual nominated for the Dykstra award whereas protocol dictates that we will select the person for the Lighthouse award directly from the pool of nominations received.
