Welcome! The Service-Learning Center wants to assist you in integrating your studies, gifts and passions with service through your classes, your residence hall or your own initiative. Streetfest introduced you to the culture of service at Calvin. We want you to be well versed in the concepts and attitude of service-learning as they apply to the needs and strengths in the city of Grand Rapids . We hope that the practice of continually learning through service, and your experience with the best techniques of service will carry with you well beyond your Calvin experience. In fact, a survey of recent Calvin grads confirm students grow from a culture of service that resists "getting all A's and flunking life." 82% said they'd experienced some or a great deal of growth because of academically-based service-learning, and 76% said they'd experienced some or a great deal of growth through service outside of class. |

| Service-Learning is a very reciprocal relationship. At every agency I've learned so much from the staff and clients. I have a greater understanding of issues that affect populations these agencies serve. I understand policies that affect agencies, see how they're funded and experience how these organizations function. It's great experience for my future career in social work. -Heidi Pfinister '05 |
