Community Partners

You probably work long hours, because you care so much about the people you serve. We're eager to hear your suggestions on good ways to work together.

Think of the Calvin College Service-Learning Center as a resource to help you meet community needs. We offer a well-organized program, responsible students and faculty members who want to integrate service into their courses.

Each year we place students in 120 to 160 organizations. Our staff, faculty and residence halls have built deep bonds over the years with some agencies and schools.

Read why so many organizations welcome Calvin volunteers

Though we can't meet every request, we do our best. We give priority to serving organizations that
  • are incorporated
  • engage in developing the most disadvantaged people in our community
  • can provide structure and support students
  • are located in southeast Grand Rapids
  • want to involve students in both service and learning
I tell the college students, "This is a learning field for you, but I need you to put my families first." When Calvin students come here, they want to help so bad. I can feel it. They're open and adaptable- just do what needs doing.
And they're dependable.
They treat this like a job.
