What if I only want to hear one of the evening concerts, not attend the whole Festival?
A limited number of public tickets will be available apart from Festival
passes for The Hold Steady concert on April 2 and the Lupe Fiasco
concert on April 3 through the Calvin
College Box Office (616.526.6282). At this point, all seats for
Over the Rhine on April 4 are reserved for Festival of Faith & Music registrants.
We may release some tickets the week before the show if there are
tickets available. You can secure your spot now by registering
for the Festival, or you can join the FFM e-mail list to get updates
about when individual tickets for that concert might be available.
There may be public tickets for other Festival events as well, which
will be announced as events are confirmed. For more information,
see the Student Activities Office web
site. The usual event discount
for current Calvin students, faculty and staff is only available
by registering for the Festival.
Why do Festival registrants have to choose between two concerts
that are taking place at the same time on Thursday, April 2?
Almost every music festival or conference schedules activities simultaneously,
which often means choosing between two (or more) good options—not necessarily
a bad or unusual thing. This year’s festival committee has chosen to have
simultaneous concerts in two separate venues on Thursday evening for several
reasons. We are able to involve a greater range of performers, both in numbers
and diversity, as well as make use of more intimate venues. Having two concerts
at the same time also allows us to sell a limited number of public tickets apart
from the Festival to help fund the participation of more major artists in the
Festival. Even though Vic Chesnutt, Baby Dee, Julie Lee and The Hold Steady are
all great artists, we hope you’re not too agonized over the decision between
the two concerts; if so, we hope you’ll still be delighted that $125 is
such a good price for three major concerts, three keynote lectures, dozens of
fascinating workshop options and all of the other great benefits that come with
being part of the Festival community.
Do I need to purchase tickets for the concerts if I have registered for FFM 2009?
No. Your Festival registration allows you to attend the concerts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening.
Is there assigned seating for the concerts?
All FFM events are general admission except the Lupe Fiasco concert in the Van
Noord Arena on April 3. The arena floor for the Lupe Fiasco show will be general
admission, with reserved seating on the upper deck. FFM registrants will be able
to choose general admission or reserved seating at registration as long as each
type of ticket is available. Those purchasing individual tickets for Lupe Fiasco
will be able to choose when they purchase their tickets through the Calvin box
office.
Do high school students get the student rate? What if I want to combine a
college visit with attendance at the festival?
High school students can register
for ffm at the $75 student rate. If you would like to learn more about Calvin
while you're here for the festival, the admissions office would be glad to help
you. There is a Fridays at Calvin event that weekend, for which you can register
separately online. You would receive on-campus housing in the dorms and meal
tickets for the duration of your stay. Also, if you would like to schedule
a personalized visit with an admissions counselor on Thursday, April 3, please
call the admissions office at (800) 688-0122.
I'm not a student, but can I still get on-campus housing?
We are only able
to offer free on-campus housing to current high school and undergraduate students
and that availability may also be limited. Those who are not eligible should
seek shelter elsewhere. Please visit the accommodations
page for more information.
