FFM LATE NIGHT | album listening
world premier: We are Rising - son lux
Fri, Apr 8; 10:30pm, The Fish House
Having found his start as Son Lux in 2007's bandspotting competition, Ryan Lott gives FFM attendees the very first opportunity to hear his new record, weeks before its official release on NPR’s All Things Considered. Ryan Lott, aka Son Lux, did a very un-Lux thing for his second album. He recorded We Are Rising in the course of a month—February, the shortest month of the year—while NPR’s All Songs Considered followed his every move. The result was a headlong rush into an exquisitely arranged album of classical notions built on modern electronics. With help from friends such as Shara Worden, yMusic (collaborators with Sufjan Sevens, The National, Antony and the Johnsons) and DM Stith, Son Lux’s sophomore album stakes a claim over an entire universe of sound from the gritty haunt that is “Leave the Riches” to the delicate array of woodwinds, strings and glassy digitalia of “Flickers.”
Here's "Rising," the first single from the new album, to whet your appetite:
