Call for papers
Our FFM 2011 call for papers is now closed. Thank you!
The Festival of Faith & Music is a biennial conference hosted by Calvin College which seeks to celebrate and understand the relationship between popular music and themes of faith, broadly conceived. We bring together musicians, journalists, academics, students and lovers of music and popular culture to listen to art that engages our world thoughtfully, and to respond to that art as people of faith.
We seek to invite musicians and speakers from a variety of backgrounds who have something to contribute to this dialogue about art, culture and faith. Past festivals have featured artists Emmylou Harris, Sufjan Stevens, Neko Case, David Bazan, Lupe Fiasco, Baby Dee, The Hold Steady and Over the Rhine. Our past speakers have included Cornel West, Makoto Fujimura, Jessica Hopper, Terry Mattingly, Cathleen Falsani, and Andy Crouch. The keynote speakers for 2011 will be Gregory Wolfe (Editor of Image), Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond), and Luke Powrey (Princeton Theological Seminary). Headlining artists will be announced shortly. Updates on confirmed artists and speakers can be found on the festival website.
We are seeking proposals for 20-minute papers or 60-minute workshops that address issues of faith and popular music in its various social and cultural contexts. Please email a 300-word abstract (attached in Word format) to Dr. Benita Wolters-Fredlund at ffmcfp_at_gmail_dot_com.
Submission deadline: February 5, 2011
