As a songwriter, producer, art director and composer, Nathan Johnson's innovative film scores and hybrid media performances often blur the lines between a variety of creative disciplines. He fronts The Cinematic Underground, a sprawling artistic collective known for a DIY approach that mixes visual art with music, narratives and found sounds. After utilizing wine glasses and household junk to compose the score for the neo-noir film Brick, The Cinematic Underground launched an independent touring stage show which would challenge the senses (and stage sizes) of clubs across America. Using live projections, cut beats and the occasional spinning bicycle wheel, the tour expanded upon the themes and images found in their recorded work. Recent years have found Nathan working as an art director and creative consultant for a number of musicians, alternately producing albums, designing record covers and directing visual performances.
