Interim Term Committee

Course Proposal Timeline for Interim 2010
The Interim Term Committee asks that academic departments meet this schedule:

By December 15, 2008 - All course proposal forms will be available to faculty online. Departments should have reviewed DCM and other course assignments by this date or shortly thereafter.

By January 19, 2009 - Department chairpersons should submit a tentative list of Interim 2010 teaching assignments, together with a list of faculty released from Interim teaching due to sabbaticals, CRFs, semester overloads, reduced loads, and other assignments. Please email this list to interim@calvin.edu.

By February 9, 2009 - Department faculty will submit course proposals, including those for off-campus courses, to department curriculum committees and chairpersons for review of course offerings and content; the department may suggest either revisions in proposed courses or development of additional or alternative courses to meet college and departmental needs.

By February 23 , 2009 - Course proposals will be approved by departments and submitted electronically to the Interim Term Committee.

By April 13, 2009 - All course proposals will be reviewed by the Interim Term Committee, after any recommended revisions, and submitted to Faculty Senate for approval at the May 2009 meeting.

The Interim Term Committee is charged by the faculty with review both of the content of specific courses and of the overall distribution of Interim course offerings. Questions that arise will be discussed with instructors and department chairs, usually by the ITC member who has been assigned as liaison with several departments. Courses will be approved provisionally when the committee's questions have been answered; formal committee approval is normally given to all proposed courses as a group to be sure that issues of balance and level have been appropriately resolved.
