| W80 German Interim Abroad. This course is approximately four weeks long and is conducted throughout Germany . After a brief tour through northern Germany , the students spend days of study in Husum, Schleswig-Holstein , Berlin , and in various locations in the former East Germany . Course participants choose where they will travel independently during the last five days. Activities include three home stays, lectures, discussions, meetings, interviews, tours, and attendance at cultural and social events. The course grade is determined by the student's overall achievement of course goals, which include active participation in course activities; gains in mastery of the language; increased understanding of various religious, political, and broadly cultural phenomena of Germany; growth in cross-cultural sensitivity; and submission of interview protocols and a journal. This course satisfies departmental concentration. This course will meet the Cross Cultural Engagement (CCE) core requirement. Fee: $2195 and up to $550 for personal and final-week costs. M. Buteyn.. Off campus. 122 Intermediate German (core). This course is part of the closely integrated 121-122-123 sequence involving two semesters and the Interim. It is intended for students who have completed two years of high school German but who, on the basis of a placement test, are not prepared for 201. The course is also open, with the permission of the department, to students in teacher education programs who have had no foreign language in high school.
