Dr. Vonk's presentation titled, "Weighing Values in the Search for Sustainability,” is based on a study she has done exploring the religious worldviews, values, and environmental impact of Amish, Hutterite, Franciscan, and Benedictine communities.
Dr. Martine Vonk works as Assistant Professor Ethics and Technology at the University of Applied Sciences Saxion in the Netherlands. She earned her PhD in 2011 at the Institute of Environmental Science at the VU University Amsterdam (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) on a thesis on sustainability and quality of life. Vonk has been coordinator of the Noach Alliantie (Noah Alliance), a Dutch platform for Christian organizations concerned with environmental issues. She is founder of A Rocha Netherlands (a Christian organization working on nature preservation) and Time to Turn, a Christian youth movement on a green and fair lifestyle. She is married and the mother of a six-year old daughter.
