- Guidelines for Peer Observations
- To encourage more conversations about teaching, the college encourages all faculty to visit one another’s classes.
- Open-ended Questionnaire
- You need new ideas, fresh vision, new approaches for a course you've taught countless times before. You need specific illustrations of what it is you do that is the most and least effective for learning.
- Teacher Behaviors Inventory
- You find the descriptions of teaching on most evaluation instruments
vague and abstract, often describing elusive qualities of one's
personality. You wish to know what instructors need to DO in
order to be more effective.
- Classroom Climate Inventory
- The environment of your class concerns you. You wonder if students
find it constructive and positive-an atmosphere that contributes
to their learning endeavors, or you're puzzled, just what kind
of learning environment do students want? It would be useful
to have them describe the ideal classroom experience for them.
Course Material Review
- Peer Version | Student Version
- The course materials you use (e.g., syllabus lecture outlines,
study guides, exams, textbooks, etc.) are included because you
believe they support and supplement what you are trying to accomplish
in the course. However, you have never really tried to assess
how effective they are in achieving your goals.
- Instructor Self-Evaluation
- You have not been trained to teach, and you have learned pretty much by experience. You haven't given it much thought, but you realize that if somebody asked you for
a detailed description of your teaching style, you'd be hard pressed to prepare one.
You can see the value in being a bit more "instructionally aware," or
you are tired of all the hoopla surrounding student evaluation and peer review.

Self-Designed Instructional Observation

- You would like input about your instruction from somebody other
than students, but asking a colleague to come to class and having
no idea of what they might say is cause for trepidation, or you
would like specific feedback from students on how to improve
instruction, but you are unsure how to phrase the items and format
of the instrument.
- Self or Colleague Review of Videotaped Teaching Sample
- How do you really look when you are teaching? You hear yourself
day after day but how do you really look from the third row?
