"An Academic in America" Column Archive
"Thomas H. Benton," an associate professor of English, authors this column in the Chronicle of Higher Education on academic work and life. Among the highlights of his past columns are:
  • The 7 Deadly Sins of Professors
If today's students are self-indulgent, it's because faculty members have abdicated responsibility for the culture of our classrooms.
  • The 7 Deadly Sins of Students
Enabled by institutions, students increasingly seem to choose self-indulgence and self-esteem over self-denial and self-questioning

Faculty Handbook
The handbook serves the members of the teaching faculty in a number of ways. Its most immediate function is to provide them with information which will facilitate their work as teachers and scholars and which will set forth their personal and professional expectations and obligations as members of the Calvin teaching faculty. The handbook also contains the most important educational and administrative practices and policies of Calvin College.
Integration of Faith & Learning
As part of the process of reappointment and tenure, Calvin College asks faculty members to reflect on the nature of their faith and scholarship. These are recent examples of faculty thinking on what it means to be a Christian scholar.
KnightVision
KnightVision, Calvin's eCommunity, brings together alumni, academic communities, support services, social activities, calendar events, and organizations in an easy to use, customizable, online environment. KnightVision provides a secure place for sharing information with Calvin faculty, staff, students and alumni.
