Faculty Openings - Biology

Full-time, tenure-track

The department seeks to fill one or more tenure-track positions, pending administrative approval, to begin August 2012.  Individuals with interests in all areas of biology will be considered, but preference will be given to those with expertise in vertebrate anatomy and physiology and evolutionary biology.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching introductory and upper level courses with laboratories, functioning as an academic advisor and mentor, establishing a research program that involves undergraduate students, and contributing actively to the broader life of the college.

Qualifications

Required:  a doctorate in a biological science, a passion for teaching undergraduates, a maturing Christian faith that is in accord with the Reformed mission of the college, and an active interest in integrating faith and science (see http://www.calvin.edu/admin/provost/facdocs/ for details).  Desirable:  post-doctoral experience, experience teaching undergraduates, and evidence of scholarly activity and potential. 

About the Biology Department

We are a dynamic team of 17 full-time faculty and 6 staff. We have 50-60 graduates each year and offer majors in Biology, Biotechnology, and Environmental Science, all within a vigorous liberal arts context.  We are committed to teaching and research, emphasizing progressive pedagogies, integrative and interdisciplinary approaches, and service learning and research opportunities within courses.  We seek to build on highly successful efforts to develop external and internal funding sources that support our facilities, equipment, and research.   (http://www.calvin.edu/academic/biology)
