Physics & Astronomy (one to two-year term)The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Calvin College invites applications for a full-time, one to two-year term appointment starting fall, 2008. This position is for teaching undergraduate physics and/or astronomy courses and laboratories for majors and non-majors. Specific course assignments will be determined based on curricular needs and a candidate’s experience. Qualifications:A Ph.D. in physics, astronomy or closely related fields is normally expected. However, candidates with M.S. degrees and significant teaching experience in physics are also encouraged to inquire. Strong teaching skills are essential. The Department:The Department of Physics and Astronomy has 9 faculty members, all with Ph.D.s. The department is also supported by a Coordinator of Laboratory Services as well as technical and clerical personnel. The Department provides a strong physics major, a general minor, and special minors in astronomy and optics. We have excellent facilities and support. Our faculty members are vigorously engaged in research and scholarship, often involving our students.
