HPERDS: Therapeutic Recreation (tenure-track)Calvin College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance, and Sport (pending administrative approval), with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation, beginning September 2008. Qualifications:Required: Master’s degree in Recreation with a specialization or experience in Therapeutic Recreation and a proven record or demonstration of excellence in teaching and active scholarship. The candidate should also possess the kind of interpersonal skills that are needed to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty and students in her or his role as a colleague and advisor. Applicants must conduct their work and lives as Christian role models, congruent with the teachings and practice of our sponsoring faith community, the Christian Reformed Church and be able to articulate how their faith interfaces with their professional discipline. Preferred: Doctorate degree in Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation with professional experience in therapeutic recreation and evidence of involvement with professional organizations. Responsibilities:Candidate is expected to teach major courses in the areas of recreation (specifically therapeutic recreation) and the physical education core (activity classes). Additional responsibilities will include service on department and college committees; advising recreation majors; and active participation in college, professional and public service. Salary:Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The HPERDS Department has 18 full-time faculty representing several different disciplines including physical education, recreation, dance, health education, and exercise science. The department also includes 17 intercollegiate athletic teams, several club sports and an active intramural program.
