Candidates with a Ph.D. and a proven record of teaching excellence, with a promising research program, are preferred. Ability to teach both East and South Asia desirable.

The candidate will teach the introductory survey course The West and the World, and upper-level courses in Asian history.

About the Department:

Calvin's comparatively large History Dept. allows it to cover a wide range of periods, places and programs. Besides treating all periods of European and North American History in depth, the department has specialists in the history of East Asia, Latin America, Central and South Asia, and the Eastern Mediterranean. We host a well-developed Archaeology Minor program, and also have a significant presence in the African Studies, Asian Studies, Medieval Studies, and International Development Studies Minors.

The History Dept. is also associated with a number of off-campus programs. For example, some of our archaeology students have worked at Umm el-Jimal, and professors from the department have led semsters in China, Great Britain, Hungary, and Ghana.
