Engineering: one-year term (electrical engineering)The Department of Engineering of Calvin College has a one-year terminal position (electrical engineering concentration) opening beginning in Spring 2009. About the Department of Engineering:“Within the mission of Calvin College, we respond to our Creator’s call to be agents of renewal by learning to design responsible technologies that serve the needs of the world. Our mission covers the faculty, staff, and students who together seek to build God’s kingdom in the areas of engineering and technology.” This is how our departmental mission statement begins. You can read the entire statement at http://www.calvin.edu/academic/engineering/about/mission.html. We have one of the most intentional, integrative Christian engineering programs in the world. Calvin has had a leadership role in one of the most visible collaborative efforts in exploring how Christian faith impacts the engineering profession – the Christian Engineering Education Conference. Our program benefits from the strong liberal arts curriculum of the college, and such a combination aligns well with the National Academy of Engineers visionary goals for the Engineer of 2020. In recent years we have recognized the importance of a global perspective in engineering and resulting in the establishment of several international interim courses (Europe, South Africa, Cambodia, The Netherlands), a summer engineering program in Germany, and international internship opportunities. Our internship program has placed numerous students and has become an essential tool in our student’s professional development. Most engineering students arrive at Calvin with strong abilities and a good work ethic – essential qualities to succeed. The engineering faculty form a caring community of creative, committed and talented professors. As a group, the faculty have an advantageous balance between strong academic and strong industrial experience. Our department is served by a competent administrative assistant and lab technician who work diligently for the department. We have a good reputation with local industry and many engineering employers outside of the region. Our facilities include an Engineering Projects building (made up of the Prince Engineering Design Center and the Vermeer Engineering Projects Center), recently renovated and expanded computer laboratories, recently renovated teaching laboratories, and research space for individual faculty.
