Education: Assistant/Associate Professor of Education (tenure-track)Calvin College is seeking to fill a tenure track position in the Education Department beginning Fall 2008. Responsibilities:The Education Department needs colleagues to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in one or more of the following areas:
Faculty members typically teach three courses per semester as well as a January Interim course, pursue a scholarship agenda, advise undergraduate and/or graduate students, and serve on college and departmental committees. Qualification, Skills, and Abilities:Candidates should have an earned doctorate or ABD. In addition the Department seeks people with P-12 teaching or research experience, knowledge of diverse learners, commitment to the integration of justice and social-cultural perspectives into teaching and research, a commitment to the integration of Christian faith and learning and a commitment to the mission of the college within the Reformed tradition of Christianity. Faculty are expected to demonstrate teaching excellence and to develop collaborative relationships with colleagues across the college and in partner schools in the community. About the Department:Calvin College’s Education Department is a dynamic team of 14 full-time faculty and an equal number of part-time instructors whose work is inspired by a commitment to social justice. Socio-cultural perspectives frame both the department’s scholarship and teaching. The Education Department locates its teaching and scholarship in the context of a vigorous liberal arts education that promotes lifelong Christian service and produces substantial and challenging art, research and scholarship. The department is committed to seek, nurture, and celebrate cultural and ethnic diversity. The Education Department is central to Calvin’s teacher education program, one that is largely at the undergraduate level involving 22 different academic departments on campus. Approximately twenty percent of Calvin’s 4300 students are in teacher education, graduating almost two hundred new teachers per year. Calvin’s education programs are approved by the State of Michigan and accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).The Teacher Education Program offers undergraduate programs for the initial preparation of elementary, secondary, and special education teachers as well as graduate programs for the advanced preparation of teachers and educational leaders.
