Chemistry and Biochemistry: (tenure-track position)

The Calvin College Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin in the fall of 2008. 

Qualifications:

The department seeks candidates who demonstrate strong commitment to excellence in both undergraduate teaching and scholarship.  The area is open, but preference will be given to biochemistry candidates or those who can interface with biochemistry (e.g., bio-analytical).  The successful candidate will be able to teach general chemistry and courses in their specialty, and be able to establish an externally-funded, vigorous research program involving undergraduates.  A Ph.D. is required.  Applicants with postdoctoral and/or teaching experience will be given preference.  Rank is open. 

About the Department:

The department has 12 faculty and offers ACS degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, and has excellent facilities and equipment for conducting research.  Faculty and students are engaged in variety of research programs funded by PRF, Research Corporation, NSF, and NIH. 

About Calvin:

Calvin College is a private four-year college with an enrollment of 4,300 students.  It is a Christian college in the Reformed tradition and all candidates are expected to embrace both the Christian faith as expressed in the Reformed creeds and the educational mission of the college. Review of applications will begin on November 15 and continue until the position is filled.  Applicants should send a cover letter that specifically addresses the ways the candidate can support the mission of the college, a curriculum vitae, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, a brief outline (2-3 pages) of research plans that would involve undergraduate students, and arrange for the submission of three letters of recommendation.  All materials should be sent to:
