The Office for Multicultural Affairs, in an effort to raise awareness and knowledge of diversity issues, is offering two development workshops this summer for Calvin faculty and staff. The 3/4 day workshops provide participants opportunites for self exploration and professional development. Workshops will be held June 3 and 4, 9am-3:30pm. Lunch will be provided. Individuals may attend either or both of the workshops. Each workshop will be limited to the first 30 registrants.

June 3: Building Cultural Intelligence

Facilitated by Pennylyn Dykstra-Pruim, this workshop is an interactive introduction to the concept of cultural intelligence (CQ). Participants will be equipped with information to enhance thier understanding of and ability to listen, observe, evaluate, interpret, and relate to CQ issues. The workshop will include presentations by Calvin faculty and staff, films, and lots of time for discussion.

June 4: Adopting an Anti-Racist Approach to Higher Education

In this workshop, led by Michelle Loyd-Paige, participants will explore: definitions of racism, a biblical understanding of diversity and racism, principles of anti-racist education, and dimensions of equitable education. The workshop will include presentations by Calvin faculty and staff, films, and lots of time for discussion. This session will also include tips for diversifying the curriculum.
