Multicultural Curriculum and Research Transformation Colloquia

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

The 4-day colloquium is open to Calvin faculty members who wish to transform courses that have not been identified as having multicultural content or multicultural perspectives. Exceptions will be made occasionally for faculty teaching courses containing significant multicultural content yet who have not attended the colloquium and would like to sharpen their skills in implementing their courses.

Participants will be selected on the following criteria:
  • Proposals adding significant racial/ethnic content to an existing course will be given highest consideration.
  • Priority will be given to full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty, but faculty with continuing-term appointments are also encouraged to apply. A case can be made for full-time lecturers who have taught at Calvin for three or more years and are teaching required or core courses.
  • Special care will be taken to include representatives from each academic division. Three representatives from each academic division will be included in the summer cohort.
  • Preference will be given to whole course transformations, however proposals to develop a multicultural unit within a course will also be considered.
