"If we want to continue to build a strong faculty who are able to speak to the culture, we need to support their scholarship. We need to communicate that ideas matter."
Claudia Beversluis, Calvin College Provost
Intellectual Tradition
Calvin has a rich tradition of Christian intellectual leadership, and this tradition is nowhere more evident than in our outstanding faculty and our pioneering centers and institutes.
Calvin is propelled by a distinctive vision, a vision of Christian Scholarship that reaches out to embrace the world that God created. "Through our learning, we seek to be agents of renewal in the academy, church, and society," Calvin's mission statement affirms. Calvin faculty live out this mssion each day through their research and teaching.
Research, Scholarship, and Service
Studies have shown that Calvin faculty members are, on average, more productive than their peers at private four-year colleges. Calvin professors publish more books, more articles in professional journals, and more chapters in edited volumes.
These research activities model a life of inquiry for our students and often result in discipline-changing scholarship:
- Awards, Honors, and Distinctions
- Creative Works and Exhibitions
- Presentations (Academic and Community)
- Professional and Community Services
- Publications
- Research Funding
