The Grand Rapids Area Council for the Humanities, in partnership with Calvin College, presents a new West Michigan documentary

Food, Michigan, and the Economy

Written and produced entirely in West Michigan, Eating In Place is an hour-long documentary exploring the past and future of the local food movement in the Grand Rapids area.  The film presents the stories of the farmers, entrepreneurs, planners and activists who pioneered West Michigan's local food movement within a framework of discussion by experts from Calvin College and Grand Valley State University.

Eating in Place asks and answers the following questions: Who are these early adopters? Why did they get involved? Is a regional food system a practical and sustainable concept for Michigan as a whole? What are the challenges? What is possible?

Recorded entirely in HD, the film celebrates the beauty and diversity of local agricultural enterprises while inspiring discussion of the potential for agriculture to help drive economic revival in our area.

Eating in Place is made possible in part by a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Eating In Place will premiere at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Prince Conference Center at Calvin College.

The premiere screening will be followed by an opportunity for the audience to discuss the issues and ideas presented with local and regional experts.
