Dean for the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division
Calvin College invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Division of Natural Science and Mathematics. The dean provides leadership for a division of nine departments (including accredited engineering and nursing programs), 108 faculty members, and 280 graduating seniors each year. As one of three academic deans reporting to the provost, the dean works collaboratively with the departments in hiring, developing, and evaluating faculty; in developing and implementing new programs; in promoting the work of the division to internal and external audiences; and in allocating resources. The science division at Calvin has been extraordinarily successful in competition for external funding including a recent large grant from HHMI to establish an innovative Integrated Science Research Institute that supports interdisciplinary activities across the division. Calvin also has an outstanding program of undergraduate student research funded in part by external grants and dedicated endowments.
The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship appropriate for a tenured position in the college as well as administrative experience appropriate to the position. Experience with grant-funded research and undergraduate research is highly desirable.
Calvin College, one of the largest Christian colleges in North America, is internationally recognized as a center of faith-anchored liberal arts teaching and scholarship. The college of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, Calvin expects faculty members to affirm the Christian faith as expressed in the Reformed confessions. From its start, Calvin has been committed to both a rigorous liberal arts education and a wide range of professional and pre-professional programs.
