On June 11, the Christian Reformed Church of North America voted to ratify Michael K. Le Roy, Ph.D., as the 10th president of Calvin College. Le Roy—the former provost and executive vice president at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington—was the presidential search committee's unanimous choice to lead Calvin in the coming years. He will be inaugurated on Saturday, October 20, 2012.
Born in La Mesa, California and raised on Bainbridge Island, Washington, Le Roy is a 1989 graduate of Whitworth University with majors in international studies and peace studies. He earned his Ph.D. in political science at Vanderbilt University in 1994 and taught at Wheaton College before returning to his alma mater in 2002. Le Roy is credited with building Whitworth's academic excellence and with helping to build its first international education center in Costa Rica.
"The board of trustees is both blessed and honored to appoint Dr. Michael Le Roy to the position of President at Calvin. He is a collaborative, visionary leader with proven academic, administrative and scholarship skills who is committed to furthering the mission of Calvin," said board chair Scott Spoelhof.
Le Roy's synodical nod caps an 11-month search process for a new Calvin president. He will be inaugurated on Saturday, October 20, 2012.
