Cabinet & Staff: About the President's Cabinet

Mandate

The President’s Cabinet serves as the executive management team for the president to provide effective leadership for the college. Guided by the “Expanded Statement of Mission:” the members of the Cabinet work to coordinate initiatives and activities in the implementation of the strategic plan. For that purpose the Cabinet serves three primary functions: to provide advice and counsel to the president, to prepare items for consideration and decision making by the Planning and Priorities Committee and to coordinate activities and work across divisions.

Provide advice and counsel to the president.

This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • reviewing effectiveness of processes across divisions and reorganization as needed;
  • ensuring cross-divisional coordination and cooperation;
  • providing mutual support and accountability as a management team;
  • evaluating and developing non-academic programs; and
  • communicating and coordinating with the Board of Trustees.

Prepare items for consideration and decision making by the Planning and Priorities Committee.

This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • preparing the college budget, including salary and benefits;
  • developing building projects and campus master plan;
  • drafting college policies (eg. intellectual property, conflicts of interest);
  • proposing real estate purchases by the college; recommending college partnerships; and
  • supervising Prince Conference Center operations.

Coordinate activities and work across divisions.

This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • adjusting staffing (not including faculty positions) within the current college budget;
  • overseeing financial operations and risk management;
  • addressing legal issues facing the college;
  • determining non-academic resource allocation;
  • planning fundraising efforts, including any capital campaigns;
  • overseeing public relations activities; devising enrollment activities;
  • recruitment and retention strategies;
  • overseeing student life activities; and
  • prioritizing physical plant projects within the current college budget.

Reporting Relationship

The President’s Cabinet reports to the President. Meeting summaries are made available to the Faculty Senate on a monthly basis.

Composition

The President’s Cabinet includes the president, the provost and the four divisional vice-presidents. The director of human resources serves the president as the secretary for the Cabinet.
