Program

The Summer Academy is a month-long residential, college immersion program for rising 10th, 11th, 12th, and first year college students.

Academics

As an Academy student you will be immersed in the joys and rigor of college life, studying one college credited course, and meeting the same academic course requirements as college students. The program offers study guidance through Calvin students available to assist you during after-class study times.

You will experience distinctively Christian, high quality college preparation that will give you context for your high school studies. With the experience of college level study, you will have a better understanding of how high school course work compares to higher education. You will be able to transfer the credits earned to most colleges and universities. You will explore your individual gifts, career interests, and readiness for college, shortening the time it will take to complete a college degree. Each Summer Academy session and the course work you complete will add to your academic strengths. Ultimately, the academy will help to prepare you to graduate from high school with the skills needed to suceed in college and beyond.

Residence Life

In the academy you will also experience college residence life and the community of Calvin, getting to know Calvin faculty and being challenged with new ideas and concepts in our distinctively Christian learning and living environment. You will form friendships and enjoy the bonds of mutual academic and social support beyond your high school peer setting. On campus you will enjoy the use of campus facilities like sand volley ball, frisbee, soccer field, tennis courts, and the newly completed gymnasium, as well as the computer labs, library, music studios, and movie theater. In the community you will lead service-learning activities and worship at local churches.
