Program Overview

Summer Academy 2012: June 16 – July 12, 2012

The Summer Academy is a month-long residential college immersion program for students currently in grades 10-12 (U.S. and international).

As a Summer Academy student, you will have the opportunity to enroll in a college course that is taught by our distinguished faculty. For the summer of 2012, Academy students will choose to enroll in either a Film Studies course or Visual Rhetoric course. Either course counts toward earning a degree at Calvin, and is transferrable to most colleges and universities.

An important aspect of the academic experience at the Summer Academy includes study guidance from current Calvin students available to assist you during after-class study times. At the Summer Academy, you will experience distinctively Christian, high quality college preparation. Ultimately, the Summer Academy will help to prepare you for success in college and beyond.

Residence Life

In the academy you will also experience college life while living on campus in a residence hall. This is a great opportunity to form new friendships while participating in evening and weekend events such as dining and movies out, a trip to the beach, Bible studies, attending local churches and exploring downtown Grand Rapids.

Summer Academy students also enjoy the use of campus facilities like sand volleyball courts, a frisbee golf course, pool, rock climbing wall, weight room, tennis courts, and the newly renovated fieldhouse recreation complex, as well as the computer labs, library, music studios and movie theater. In the community you will lead service-learning activities and worship at local churches.
