The Curriculum Center is the K-12 curriculum materials library for Calvin College, and as such serves as a resource for instructional materials to Calvin College students, faculty, and community educators. The Curriculum Center specializes in providing access to both print and resource materials that would actually be used within an elementary or secondary Christian and secular school classroom.
The mission of the Curriculum Center is to provide services and resources to support both undergraduate and graduate teaching programs and help prepare reflective practitioners to teach students in a global and diverse society.
To serve Calvin College Education students by:
- developing and maintaining a K-12 collection
- assisting with finding references and instruction
- providing access to current and emerging technology and equipment
The Curriculum Materials Center is a facility that is affiliated with the Education Department, and as such serves education majors and minors primarily. The collection contains textbooks and curriculum related materials for grades K-12.
This library lends professional and practical teaching material, including education books, children’s and young adult literature, elementary and secondary textbooks, teaching aids, multimedia resources, posters, games, material kits, education periodicals, and models.
The children's literature collection and the education-related journals are housed in the main library, although there are some small representative collections in the Curriculum Center. The collection is automated as a part of the Hekman Library system, Evergreen.
To locate Curriculum Center items, users connect to Hekman Library's Online Catalog and limit their search results by location (“in”) to the Curriculum Center.
The Curriculum Center can be accessed from the Commons Lawn and is found on the ground level (200-level) of Hiemenga Hall next to the Audio Visual Department.
Collaborative white-board and over-sized tables are available for group projects. Five networked PCs are available, copy machine and printer.
