Alcohol
As stated in the Knollcrest East Housing Contract, use or possession of alcoholic beverages and beverage containers on campus is prohibited. Students present in a room where alcohol is present and/or being consumed will be in violation of this policy. Underage drinking, excessive drinking and drunkenness are unacceptable behaviors. A student is subject to a fine of $100 and disciplinary action for such behavior and his/her continued enrollment at Calvin College may be in jeopardy. The complete alcohol policy is found in the Calvin College Student Handbook.

Apartment Entry
The College and its staff reserve the right to make routine maintenance inspections and to enter a student's apartment without prior notification and/or permission when there is good reason to believe there is a violation of College, state, or federal regulations. The College staff may also enter rooms for maintenance purposes during vacation periods.

Bicycles
Bicycles may not be left in hallways, lobby, or other public areas of buildings. All bicycles must be tagged with the owner's name if stored over the summer. Bicycles should be stored in Chi, Epsilon, or Lambda bicycle storage rooms. Keys are available at the KE desk with the payment of a $5 deposit.

Disturbances
Water fights and other athletic or disruptive activities are not permitted inside buildings. Students involved in raids, pranks, and disturbances which include, but are not limited to, shouting obscenities, profanities, and running through the building will be subject to monetary fines of up to $100. Any persons involved in behavior which is demeaning to an individual and breaks down Christian community will be subject to disciplinary action and/or fines.

Fire Extinguishers and Alarms
Tampering with fire extinguishers or fire alarms on campus is prohibited. Violators are subject to disciplinary action and a $500 fine.

Fireworks/Firearms
The use or possession of fireworks, firearms, or explosives of any kind is prohibited. Violators are subject to disciplinary action and a $100 fine. Slingshots, paint-ball guns, potato guns, or other similar devices are also prohibited.

Furniture
Residents are responsible for the furniture provided by the college, and it is not to be removed from apartments. Furniture from public areas must not be removed. Residents may not tamper with or remove apartment accessories. ($10 fine)

Discipline
Resident assistants finding students involved in infractions of Knollcrest East policies are obligated to report this information to the area coordinator. The Area Coordinator is responsible for follow-up and disciplinary action. The Area Coordinator may choose to refer any case directly to the Dean or Assistant Dean of Residence Life.

Noise
Respect and consideration for other residents in the community necessitates that excessive noise will not be tolerated. The use of electric guitars and drums is prohibited. A student is subject to a $10 fine or further disciplinary action for excessive noise.

Lamps
Floor and desk lamps are permitted but must be UL approved. The college reserves the right to remove them if they are deemed a fire hazard.

Loss or Theft
Missing items, which you believe have been stolen, should be recorded on the forms provided at the reception desk. The best security is a locked door. An etching device to label your valuables may be signed out at Campus Safety. Although the college will use all reasonable efforts to protect the students' property, it is understood that the college is not in any way liable for any loss which may occur. Students should determine whether their property is covered by their parents' homeowner insurance policy. If a student's property is not covered, he/she may wish to purchase a minimum contents coverage policy.

Visitation Policies and Procedures for Knollcrest East
Knollcrest East apartments have a 24-hour visitation policy for living rooms, dining rooms, and kitchens. Visitation in bedrooms is restricted and cohabitation is not permitted.

Bedrooms: Visitation in bedrooms is limited to 10 am until Midnight on weekdays and 1:00am on Friday and Saturday, providing privacy for roommates and out of respect for the sexual mores which flow from our Christian commitment.

Cohabitation: Cohabitation includes inappropriate sexual behavior at any time, in any part of the apartment, but also includes "sleeping over" by members of the opposite gender. Again, this policy attempts to take seriously our commitment to a Christian view of relationships and sexuality.

Since this policy gives increased freedom to students, it assumes increased responsibility and personal accountability on everyone's part. Students who disregard or abuse this freedom will face possible loss of visitation privileges and/or other disciplinary action.

Parking
All resident students' vehicles must display a valid Calvin College parking permit. Motorcycles and all other vehicles with gasoline motors must conform to all college parking regulations. There is no parking in front of garbage dumpsters, on lawns, or where parking spaces are not designated by painted lines. A complete description of college parking and driving regulations is available at fall registration and at Campus Safety. All students are expected to know and comply with these regulations.

Pets
Pets (except fish) are not permitted in the apartments. A $25 fine will be levied for violation.

Posters and Room Decorations
Inappropriate and/or offensive decorations may not be displayed. Public street signs are not permitted in the rooms.

Screens
Screens are not to be removed from the windows. Persons removing screens are subject to a $10 fine.

Smoking
Smoking is only permitted in designated smoking areas. Violators will receive a $10 fine. Smokers, please place cigarette butts in provided containers. Let's keep our campus clean.

Soliciting
Soliciting, peddling, vending of all types and distribution of literature are prohibited in the apartment buildings unless permission is obtained from the KE Area Coordinator.

Sunday Observance
Calvin students are encouraged to observe Sunday in keeping with the spirit and purpose of the day. Woodlawn Christian Reformed Church services and an evening Calvin College service are held in the campus chapel each week. A number of local churches also provide transportation to their worship services
