Types of Aid - Student Employment (Work-study)

StudentsMore than 1,800 Calvin students work part-time in various campus jobs, such as Creative Dining Services, campus maintenance, library, or information technology positions. Many other options are also available. Most if not all students seeking an on-campus job in the fall should be able to find one. About 500 such positions are usually available to incoming students. Most students who have worked in an on-campus position during the previous school year are given the opportunity to return to that job the following year.

Student Employment Services posts current on-campus job openings on Calvin's intranet service entitled "KnightVision". The positions are categorized by field with on-campus positions as one of the categories. Students should select a position or two that interests them, contact the listed supervisor and inquire as to how to apply. Off-campus positions are also listed in similar way, showing contact information, hourly wage and number of hours needed per week. In order to make off-campus employment a viable option for students who want to work, the Calvin Transportation Service provides transportation to and from job locations for a fee.

In most cases, it is assumed that student working 10 to 12 hours per week will be able to earn $2,000 or more from a job either on or off campus during the year. Your earnings may be used to help pay your tuition or any other educational costs such as books and supplies.
